Species Mapper
A downloadable tool for Windows
Use a minimal interface to quickly generate maps containing up to 500 occurrences of a species you enter into the search bar.
If you were ever curious as to where an animal you like has been seen and would like a map of it, this is the app for you. Enter its scientific name, generate the map, use the included toolbar to zoom in/out and save the map image.
Works on extinct species too ( tested with Otodus megalodon).
For the moment the app uses the pygbif.occurrences.search function to find occurrence data, may change it to the occurrences.download function to also access the occurrences.download_citation and occurrences.download_meta functions for actually citing the origin of the data.
The code for the app is in this github repo: https://github.com/pocketfall/sp_mapper
